Our first Internet website was published in 1996. It was small, by comparison with today's standards, and
clumsy - slow and difficult to manage. Reliability of servers, the computers on which Internet websites reside,
wasn't too great, and public access to that website, designed for an electronics manufacturer, was "off-again,
on-again".
Over the ensuing years, issues of reliability and speed of access have improved considerably. Today, there
are more than 7 billion websites - the US Census Bureau indicates that more than 35 million of the 72 million
households use the Internet regularly. While individual Internet usage ranges from bill paying and book
purchasing to engaging in a competitive game of dominoes with opponents ten thousand miles apart - the
search for information remains the most frequent reason for use of the Internet.
It occurred to us it a church congregation is made up of typical US households, then a church, using the
Internet, could reasonably expect to connect with half of its members - and half of the community in which it
resides. Maybe more.
We believe, with potential like that, our ministry of producing and maintain church websites is worthy of our time
and effort.
